I am designing a long strip at the back of the yard, filling in with small dwarf dogwoods, white hydrangeas and hostas, and using black mulch.

A yard with a planned strip for dwarf dogwoods and hydrangeas.

That combination already works really well, I’d just focus on spacing and layering so the hydrangeas create the main visual mass, the hostas fill in the front, and the dogwoods give you height in the back, plus the black mulch really helps everything pop. here’s something I designed https://app.neighborbrite.com/s/p4oGyr76sup
